Strategic Vision Plan 2010-2015

Focuses on restructuring the university´s academic offerings, strengthening research capabilities, doubling of the annual student intake, potentially shortening the M.Sc. program, continuing global maritime capacity building, and developing, implementing, and fine-tuning a business model to serve as the operational platform in a sustainable manner for the long-term. Strategic priorities have been identified, a vision statement formulated, the mission fine-tuned and a set of core values defined.

New Premises 2012

This document details some aspects of the new facility and its appropriateness as the future home of the World Maritime University. It also details the continuing relationship with the City of Malmö for the sake of formal approval by the WMU Board of Governors at the scheduled First Extraordinary Session of the WMU Board of Governors in London on 3 November 2010. Although the floor plans are attached, additional architectural data will be developed once a scheduled competition has been completed for the design of the new building complex.

Development Plan 2011-2013

The development plan represents the first ever attempt by WMU to fashion a  sustainable funding plan that articulates medium to long-term goals and financial donor targets that will be supported and achieved through a university-wide campaign effort. WMU is internationally recognized as a specialized higher educational establishment that focuses on maritime capacity building in less developed nations. WMU requires a broaderand more sustainable funding base in order to meet its Charter mission and goals. The development plan articulates a number of avenues for WMU to increase the number of donors, seek greater maritime industry, government, NGO, and private foundation support, and at the same time substantially enhance its international recognition.

Business Plan 2011-2012

The Business Plan includes an outline of six operational units of the university, as envisioned by management under a rigorous planning and implementation process, which began early in the summer of 2010. The six core operational units cover all potential WMU profits centers: (i) M.Sc. program in Malmö; (ii) Outreach teaching and professional programs; (iii) Courses and Conferences; (iv) Research, Ph.D. program, and Consultancies; (v) English and Study Skills Program (ESSP); and (vi) Commercial – Henrik Smith Residence, Cafeteria, and Sales. Each core operational unit is described and analyzed relative to critical issues, growth potential, and financial impact.

Sustainable Funding for WMU

A Correspondence Group was established at the 104th Session of IMO Council in June 2010 to address resolution A.1031 (26), adopted at the 26th Session of IMO Assembly in December 2010, which, amongst other things, acknowledged the special contribution of the World Maritime University (WMU) to the attainment of the objectives of IMO and “requested the Secretary-General to work out, under the direction of the Council, ways and means to ensure the future financial sustainability of the University”. This document has thus specifically been prepared on the request of the Chair of the Correspondence Group to provide factual data and  responses to comments made and questions raised by members of the Correspondence Group.

PDC Strategic Management Framework

Professional Development Courses (PDCs) have been offered by the World Maritime University for the past two decades with relative commercial success, considering the limited budgets and marketing efforts available. However, to optimize the benefits, our current PDC program requires improvement within a cohesive framework. It outlines the WMU strategy and management framework for PDC activities and addresses several challenges and issues that are key to a successful PDC program moving forward in 2012.

WMU Publications

WMU Publications has been established as the route for publishing of scholarly books on maritime affairs written by WMU staff and external maritime experts linked to the University.
