WMU alumnus, Ambassador Dwight Gardiner, Antigua and Barbuda's Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has been appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).

WMU Alumni Association Launched in Philippines

The WMU Alumni Association of the Philippines was launched on 5 August in Manila at the Marlow Navigation Training Center, Inc. To date, the Philippines ranks third in the countries with the most WMU graduates with a total of 128 alumni.

MoU with Berbera Maritime & Fisheries Academy, Somalia

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Academic Cooperation was signed between WMU and the Berbera Maritime & Fisheries Academy (BMFA) on 22 February. WMU welcomed alumnus (M.Sc. PSA 1992) Abdiqani Mohamed Khayre, Vice-President of BMFA, and Captain Ali Mohamed Hassan, Lecuter, for the signing.

WMU Graduate Michael Luguje of Ghana was elected by the Ports Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA) as its Secretary General for the next 4 years (2012 - 2016) on 29 June. In his new role, Luguje will work from the headquarters in Lagos, Nigeria, as the Chief Executive of the Association.
