On 8 September, 32 students in the 2017 English and Study Skills Programme (ESSP) completed their intensive 3-month studies. The ESSP curriculum is designed to upgrade the English language competencies of the participants in Academic English for maritime purposes. It may be taken as a precursor to WMU’s M.Sc.

On 26 and 27 August, graduation ceremonies were held in Shanghai and Dalian for the two graduating Classes with a total of 54 students. This brings the number of students graduating at the WMU China-based campuses to 876 over the past 12 years.
