Dr. Serrano obtained her Law degree/LL.M. in European and International Law from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She holds a LL.M. degree in International Commercial Law from the University of Leicester in England.
Inspired by her work as Project Officer on a Jean Monnet Project of the EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency implemented in the South Pacific between 2003 and 2006, Dr. Serrano pursued doctoral studies in European and International Law at the University of Central Lancashire, England. In her PhD thesis she analyzed the trade-development nexus in Economic Partnership Agreements between EU and Pacific ACP countries.
From 2006 to 2010 Dr. Serrano worked as Senior Lecturer in Law and LLM Programme Director at the University of Central Lancashire, UK. Between 2010 and 2014 she continued her academic career at the University of the South Pacific as Senior Lecturer in Law and Deputy Head of Law School in Vanuatu. Following her return to Europe in 2014, Dr. Serrano served the German government as adviser with the German development cooperation agency GIZ. Her areas of expertise included sustainability standards governance and EU trade policy.
Dr. Serrano joined the World Maritime University on 1 September 2016, as Marketing and Development Officer. In this position, she is responsible for all strategic development activities under the WMU Strategic Vision Plan and the University’s Business Plan.
