Maritime English – Upgrading Teaching Competencies
It is expected that by the end of the course the participants will:
- Have become fully aware of what is required of the contemporary Maritime English teacher to fulfil at least the basic demands ofIMO’s legal instruments, its advisory Model Course 3.17 and IMO’s Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP)
- Have an understanding of the current methods being used, and knowledge of the resources available, in order to teach and assess Maritime English competencies
- Be in a position to develop and integrate the competencies discussed into the work situation, and share them with colleagues
- Be prepared to embark upon a sustained process of self-directed skills development.
The course will largely take the form of a workshop, where the programme is determined after consultation with the client. A Pre-Course Questionnaire is available for the client to distribute to the (potential) participants; this being useful in determining their individual needs.
