The WMU Song

The WMU Song was composed by two WMU students in the Class of 1993, Larry L. Muller from the Marshall Islands and Ambrose Chu Hin Wong from Malaysia. The song was first performed in 1992 and is beloved by the many graduates who have attended WMU. At the 2017 Graduation Ceremony, Mr. Muller and Mr. Wong will receive Outstanding Alumni Awards.

WMU Graduation 2016

On Saturday, 29 October, maritime leaders and experts of tomorrow from over 50 countries graduated from the World Maritime University (WMU) in the Class of 2016.

Mr. Kitack Lim, the first International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General and WMU Chancellor to hold a MSc degree from WMU, conferred the degrees on two PhD candidates, 114 graduates from the Malmö MSc programme, 35 of whom were women, several students from the MSc programmes in Shanghai and Dalian, China, as well as a number of postgraduate diploma students who completed their studies by distance learning. In total, 238 students graduated from the Class of 2016.

On Sunday, 1 November 2015, WMU’s Chancellor and Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Koji Sekimizu, conferred postgraduate degrees on the World Maritime University’s Class of 2015.

World Maritime Day 2015

World Maritime Day will be celebrated at the International Maritime Organization on 24 September, 2015. The theme for 2015 is Maritime Education and Training. WMU and our sister organization, the International Maritime Law Institute, are featured in IMO Secretary-General, Mr Koji Sekimizu's, World Maritime Day message. Mr Sekimizu also serves as the Chancellor of WMU.

Making Waves: Woman leaders in the maritime world

This video reports on continuing efforts by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the World Maritime University (WMU) to promote the advancement of women in shipping. It puts the spotlight on the outcome of the 2014 “Maritime Women: Global Leadership” conference held by WMU in Malmo, Sweden, and co-sponsored by IMO. The conference attracted women and men from more than 70 countries to discuss the advancement of women throughout the maritime professions.

International Women's Day has been observed since the early 1900s. The World Maritime University is supporting global maritime capacity building and promoting sustainability in the shipping industry by advancing the careers of female maritime professionals through education.
