WMU's Academic Programs

Since its foundation in 1983, WMU has established an excellent reputation as a global centre for advanced education and research in the maritime field.  We offer high-quality professional education that provides students with a unique insight into the maritime sector.
 
WMU offers only postgraduate degrees: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Science (MSc), and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD).
 
In Malmö, Sweden, we offer a program leading to a Master of Science in Maritime Affairs.  Students can specialise in one of six areas: Maritime Safety & Environmental Administration, Maritime Law & Policy, Marine Environmental & Ocean Management, Port Management, Shipping Management and Maritime Education & Training.
 
In Shanghai, China, we offer a Master of Science in International Transport & Logistics, and in Dalian, China, we offer a Master of Science in Maritime Safety & Environmental Management.  The China-based programs are designed and taught by WMU professors.
 
WMU offers two PhD programs: one in Maritime Administration, taught in Malmö; the other in Maritime Law or International Commercial Law, taught jointly with the Swansea University in Britain.
 
The University also offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Marine Insurance by distance learning, in association with Lloyd’s Maritime Academy.
 
WMU provides an extensive program of short-term Professional Development Courses, joined by about 700 students each year, which are closely linked to specific units of the MSc programme which have been selected to offer high-quality professional updating.
 
In addition, we arrange tailor-made Executive Development Programs for individual clients, which harness the University’s expertise to meet the client’s training needs in a specific topic.
