WMU Participates in Maritime Day, Åland

WMU participated in the Maritime Day event held on 16 May in Mariehamn, Åland. WMU was represented by Associate Academic Dean Patrick Donner and Senior Faculty Specialist, Mia Hedin. Among the exhibitors were ship owners, suppliers, maritime schools and other maritime organizations. During the event several seminars covering industry and political topics were held. The event was attended by some 1200 participants and held at the Alandica Kultur & Kongress, Mariehamn, Åland.

Ålands Sjöfart, Åland Maritime Society, was founded in 1939 and its aim is to take advantage of the Åland ships and seafarers' interests. The union currently has two main activities, issuance of Åland Maritime and partly annual project aimed at recruiting young people to the maritime industry. In addition the Association awards scholarships and other assistance to individuals or organizations engaged in or related to the maritime industry. Ålands Sjöfart has offered the Maritime Day event since 2001.
