Dr. Jan Hoffmann is Chief of UNCTAD’s Trade Facilitation Section. He works as trade facilitation, port and shipping specialist with the Trade Logistics Branch of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva since 2003. He is in charge of a project on capacity building in developing countries for the WTO Negotiations Process on trade facilitation as well as trade and transport facilitation projects in Afghanistan and in Pakistan; he edits the UNCTAD quarterly “Transport Newsletter”, is author of two chapters of UNCTAD’s annual “Review of Maritime Transport” and regularly teaches for various UNCTAD training programmes.
Previously, he spent six years with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Santiago de Chile, and two years with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in London and in Santiago. Prior to this, he held part time positions as assistant professor, import-export agent, translator, consultant and seafarer for a tramp shipping company.
