Ms. Flora Lim joined the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute in May 2021 as a Secretary. Her primary responsibilities include providing secretarial support to the Director and the Head of Research and handling administrative and procurement duties for multiple PhD programmes and research projects for the Institute. Flora holds a MSc. in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science at Lund University (LUMES) in Sweden. The programme places a strong emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability issues of which Flora develops a keen passion towards urban sustainability and community engagement.
Upon the return to Hong Kong after the master programme, Flora started to work for the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) to oversee the registration and certification of the local green building certification scheme, BEAM Plus. Flora supported the Green Labelling Committee and various technical taskforces on revitalisation of historical buildings, development and upgrade of rating tools for existing buildings and building interiors. She was a project manager for the development of the new rating tool of BEAM Plus Neighbourhood, a new tool at the planning stage of a development project with an emphasis on public space, community engagement and ecology. Flora was also responsible for organising training for building professionals. To promote green buildings to the public, Flora devised different communication strategies including exhibitions, online exhibitions, TV series, engagement with a NGO on urban experiments and publications. During the six years with HKGBC, Flora also participated in the Barcelona-Hong Kong Urban Exchange working group and represented HKGBC at the World Green Building Council Annual Meeting at Jaipur, India.
Flora is passionate about nature and outdoor life. She was active in scouting in her early years and she had completed the 100-kilometer Trailwalker twice for fundraising for Oxfam Hong Kong. She holds a PADI Advanced diver certificate and she is also a certified Chinese Tea Master. After her relocation to Sweden in 2018, Flora determines to lead a sustainable life in Malmö. She starts her own colonial garden and grows her own vegetables while developing further interests in foraging in the wild.
