Jeffrey Blum has been involved in shipping and trading since 1972. He is the fourth generation of a shipping and freight forwarding family, has been a member of the Baltic Exchange since 1976 and has worked with a Lloyd's underwriter, aLloyd’s broker and as a shipbroker, ship owner, ship operator (including commercial heavy lift project cargoes and later multi-modal logistics for United Nations Peace Keeping Forces for 4 years), gas oil futures broker, charterer and commodities trader in London and abroad.

Interlink International Trading (UK) Ltd was founded by him in 1994, providing maritime and commodities commercial claims consultancy and bespoke corporate training. His clients include oil majors, commodity traders, shipowners, P&I Clubs, shipbrokers, law firms, international shipping organisations and governments.  

In 2002 Jeffrey founded and is the principal lecturer (with 30 guest lecturers) ofMaritime Education & Training Ltd, which provides bespoke training for international students in London or elsewhere, including those preparing for the annual examinations of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. He has contributed articles to many trade magazines and chapters to textbooks.

He achieved Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Ship brokers by examination in 1979  (3rd in the world) and since 1983 has served on the London & South East Branch Committee, including as its Education Officer 2000-2015 and again 2000 to date, Chairman 2005-2007 and Vice Chairman 2003-2005 and 2015-2017. He also served for many years on the International Controlling Council, the Membership Committee, the UK & Ireland Zone Committee and currently serves on the International Branches' Education Officers Committee

Jeffrey is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators since 1997, is a Supporting Member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association and since 1994 has been an arbitrator (both sole and tribunal) under LMAA and more recently SCMA terms, an expert witness since 1983 and serves on the governing Council of BEWA (Baltic Exchange Expert Witness Association). He has been on the controlling council o fICSAS (International Commodity and Shipping Arbitration Service) since its creation in 2005

Since 1984 he has been lecturing on several subjects of Maritime Studies and Law at universities and colleges in London, throughout the UK and abroad. He is a Visiting Professor at the World Maritime University at Malmö and the Shanghai Maritime University (both since 2007) and is a frequent guest presenter at bespoke, academic and public training conferences and masterclass workshops worldwide.
