Professor Kavussanos is a faculty member of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), Greece. He is the Director of the M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in Accounting and Finance and of the Research Centre for Finance at AUEB.
He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Economics) from the University of London and a Ph.D. (Applied Economics) from City University Cass Business School (Cass), London. He launched and Directed the M.Sc. in Trade, Logistics and Finance at Cass until he joined AUEB.
He has held various posts, including: Reader in Shipping Economics and Finance at the Centre for Shipping, Trade and Finance, Cass Business School, and Visiting Professor at: World Maritime University (Malmö), Henley Business School - University of Reading (UK), Erasmus University (Rotterdam), Euromed Marseille (France), University of Antwerp (Belgium), Shanghai Maritime University (China), National University of Singapore, Hellenic Open University, University of Piraeus, Open University of Cyprus, Cyprus International Institute of Management and LUISS University (Rome); expert evaluator and consultant in financial economics and transportation issues for organizations, like the Commission of the European Communities and other public and private sector companies.
He has written extensively in the areas of finance, shipping and applied economics and has been the author of numerous pieces of academic work published in top international refereed journals. He has lectured at both postgraduate (Ph.D., MBA, M.Sc.) and undergraduate levels (B.Sc., BA) and has delivered executive seminars for practitioners in subject areas such as Shipping Finance, Shipping Risk Management, Shipping Economics and Policy, Financial Derivatives, Investments and Portfolio Management, Financial Management, Corporate Finance and Maritime Business. He has received the best lecturer annual award at Cass Business School, London. He has developed the area of risk analysis and management in shipping, which remains among his current research interests in addition to shipping economics, asset valuation, financial derivatives and forecasting.
Professor Kavussanos is the co-author, amongst others, of the books: ‘Risk and Return in Transportation and other US and Global Industries’ (2001), ‘Derivatives and Risk Management in Shipping (2006), and co-editor of ‘Theory and Practice of Shipping Freight Derivatives’ (2011).
