Valter Selén is the Senior Policy Advisor for Sustainable Development and EcoPorts Coordinator with the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO). Valter started working at ESPO in June 2020. Next to the environmental portfolio, Valter is also in charge of ESPO’s Cruise and Ferry Port Network.
Before working with ESPO, Valter worked as a policy assistant with the European Commission, DG CLIMA, where he drafted the first annual report on maritime CO2 emissions. He has also worked at the Swedish Delegation to the OECD and UNESCO, in a consultancy, in Swedish party politics and has previously interned in the European Parliament.
Valter holds a double-MA in European Governance and a BA in Politics and Economics. He has studied and worked in his native Sweden, Germany and briefly in the Netherlands and in Quebec. He is Swedish, is fluent in English and speaks French.
