WMU & IMO Train-the-Trainer Initiative on Energy Efficient Operations of Ships

The Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) will be a mandatory requirement under the MARPOL Annex VI which will shortly enter into force. This Plan details operational measures to improve the energy efficiency of a ship in a cost-effective manner. In this context, the World Maritime University (WMU), with the financial support of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), developed a training course to promote Energy Efficient Operation of Ships and SEEMP.

WMU is now organising two train-the-trainer courses on the subject in February and May 2013 respectively for selected maritime experts/trainers from various regions of the world in order to create a worldwide team of trainers and to enhance awareness on Energy Efficient Operation of Ships. It is expected that developing the training capacity in this area will significantly assist related future capacity-building efforts in developing regions.

In this connection, WMU is calling for applications for the sponsored seats, and this call for application is open to candidates who are full-filling the following criteria:

  1. has relevant educational background and experience; and
  2. has obtained support to the application by the candidate’s Government (in the form of a support letter from the relevant Government Department/Ministry that deals with maritime issues).

Registration

Registration is now closed.

Funding

WMU will provide funding to cover the travel of the participants to Malmö, Sweden, using the most economic and direct route, as well as a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) to cover accommodation, meals and incidentals. Please kindly note that insurance for risk in traveling or for illness, etc., must be arranged by the participants and actual travel arrangements will be made after receiving the confirmation of participation in the Training Courses.

Dates, number of participants, and language

The first session of the train-the-trainer courses will be held in the week 8, from 18 to 22 February 2013, whilst the second session will take place in the week 20, from 13 to 17 May 2013, respectively. The course will cover five modules encompassing the issues relevant to the topic on Energy Efficient Operations of Ships and will also include session dealing with the pedagogical aspect of the training delivery.

The registration deadline for both sessions is on 7 January 2013 and candidates should therefore make their registrations as early as possible but not later than 07 January 2013.

Please take note that seats are limited to a maximum of only 18 participants in total (9 seats for the first session in February 2013 and 9 seats for the second session in May 2013). In case the number of participant requested for the February 2013 session is not reached, the seats will be transferred to the May 2013 session.

Both training courses will be held in English only.
