By accessing this site, certain information about the User, such as Internet protocol (IP) addresses, navigation through the Site, the software used and the time spent, along with other similar information, will be stored on the servers we utilize. These will not specifically identify the User.

The information will be used internally only for web site traffic analysis. If the User provides unique identifying information, such as name, address and other information on forms stored on this Site, such information will be used only for statistical purposes, or for notifications from WMU if the User has chosen to opt-in for that service and/or registered for a WMU related conference/event, and will not be published for general access. We respect User privacy and will not sell or share collected information with any other party. The World Maritime University, however, assumes no responsibility for the security of information collected.

Collection of personal data

When you use our public services, our systems automatically keep a log of your IP (Internet Protocol) address, domain name, browser type, operating system, and information such as the web site that referred you to us, the files you download, the pages you visit, and the dates/times of those visits. When you register to use our library services, subscribe to a mailing list, provide feedback on our services, or register for a conference/event, we keep the personal information you provide to us securely in our database. When you purchase a publication or service, or register for a conference/event, you may be asked to provide your credit card details and contact information. These details are transferred to a secure, online payment service, hosted outside of WMU. Credit card information is not retained by WMU. WMU sites with specific requirements to collect personal information may publish a privacy policy specific for that site. In these cases, the site-specific policies will be complementary to this general WMU Privacy Policy, but will give additional details for that particular site. For certain WMU sites, registering or supplying personal information sets a cookie. By setting this cookie, WMU will remember your details the next time you visit, so you don't have to re-enter the information. This helps us remember your preferences, and generally improve the user experience. Joining electronic discussion groups may mean that other participants of the discussion group (including non-WMU employees) will see personal information that you have volunteered. For open discussion groups, such as WMU webinars, this information will be public. Providing personal information on the WMU site is optional. If you choose not to provide personal information, you can still browse and use the WMU site, but you will not be able to carry out certain actions such as register for our newsletter or apply for our academic programmes.
