Executive Course in Maritime Affairs Delivered for NIMASA Administration

The World Maritime University (WMU) delivered an Executive Course on Maritime Affairs and Maritime Administration for the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) at WMU Headquarters in Malmö, Sweden from 28 September to 2 October. The intensive programme, brought together 12 participants, mainly board members, from NIMASA for a week of learning and engagement on key issues shaping the global maritime sector.

Designed for senior executives and leaders, the course provided a broad understanding of maritime affairs and the roles and responsibilities of national maritime administrations. Topics included maritime safety and security, marine environmental protection, maritime law and policy, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), maritime education and training, seafarers, shipping, ports and maritime transport systems.

Through expert-led lectures and guided discussions, the programme encouraged participants to examine current practices, consider institutional responsibilities and explore opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness of maritime administration. The interactive format also enabled participants to engage with WMU experts on the international regulatory framework and the challenges facing maritime administrations, including those specific to NIMASA. The NIMASA executives also had the opportunity to listen to presentations by NIMASA-sponsored students and to discuss their work.

WMU offers executive education and professional development opportunities that strengthen maritime knowledge and support capacity development among maritime leaders and administrations worldwide. Learn more at: https://www.wmu.se/epdc.
