IMO audit of the Polish Maritime Administration

On 12 April 2010 the Ministry of Infrastructure hosted a meeting to launch an audit of the Polish maritime administration.  This is known as VIMSAS - Voluntary IMO Member State Audit Scheme. This will be performed by three IMO-appointed auditors, including WMU’s Jens Schröder-Hinrichs.  The meeting was attended by Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Anna Wypych-Namiotko, and representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the Ministry of National Defence, and the Ministry of the Environment.

The audit is being conducted of both central and local maritime administration institutions: Ministry of Infrastructure, Maritime Offices, Maritime Search and Rescue Service, the Polish Navy’s Hydrographic Office, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management in Gdynia, and the Polish Border Guard in Gdynia.  These IMO audits are designed to provide a Member State with a comprehensive and objective assessment of how effectively it administers and implements the mandatory IMO instruments covered by the scheme. On 19 April 2010, the auditors will come to a closing meeting and present their findings and observations.
