ISPS Code Implementation Seminar by USCG

The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) is the international framework through which Governments, ships and port facilities can co-operate to detect and deter acts which threaten security in the maritime transport sector. From 20-22 April 2015, representatives from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) delivered an ISPS Code Implementation Seminar for Maritime Law and Policy students in the Law of the Sea and Maritime Security course led by WMU Associate Professor, Dr. Aref Fakhry. LCDR Anthony J. Quirino, Deputy Chief, International Port Security Program, headed the USCG delegation and was accompanied by LCDR Jonathan Mangum and LT Steven Barry who also participated in the delivery of the seminar. In the interest of capacity building, the course was fully funded by the USCG and the instructors engaged in dialogue with the students regarding specific issues that may be facing their respective countries.
