MSEA Field Study to the Philippines

As a result of the MoU signed last November with the Maritime Administrative Authority (MARINA) of the Republic of the Philippines, 16 students in the Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration (MSEA) specialization travelled to the Philippines for a field study from 5-9 May. The group was accompanied by Professor Jens-Uwe Schröder-Hinrichs and Associate Professor Michael Baldauf.

The field study was coordinated by MARINA and WMU Alumni and included visits to MARINA, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Marlow Navigation Training Center, the Philippine Port Authority, Magsaysay Transport & Logistics Corporation, the Manila International Container Terminal, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific, the Asian Institute of Management, the Fiilipino Shipowners’ Association, and the Phillipine Transmarine Carriers who hosted a farewell reception on the last day with a cultural program. There was also an opportunity to interact with many of the 130 WMU graduates from the Philippines including the Administrator of MARINA, WMU alumnus and Professor, Dr. Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr. (MSA(N) 1994) with an alumni dinner hosted by Magsaysay Transport & Logistics Corporation of which WMU Executive Board Member Doris Magsaysay Ho is the CEO.
