Ship Safety Survey & Certification Management Course, Malmö

From 9-13 December, part one of a customized Professional Development Course was conducted for several maritime inspectors from the Swedish Transport Agency. The course is seven weeks in total and will be conducted through April of 2014. The overall goal is to provide education in IMO conventions that govern the supervisory activities concerning ship safety and environment. Part one was led by Dr. George Theodcharidis and focused on the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The aim was to enable participants to understand the basic concepts of the Law of the Sea such as the Territorial Sea and High Seas, Continental Shelf and Exclusive Economic Zone, and Area and International Seabed Authority.
