TK Foundation – Video about WMU

The TK Foundation is an independent private foundation that works to fulfill the legacy of Teekay founder Torben Karlshoej. Torben’s nephew, Jesper Karlshoej, visited WMU and speaks in this video about the importance of WMU.

The TK Foundation has awarded 27 fellowships to WMU students since 2009. The Foundation also made a major donation to establish the MaRiSa (Maritime Risk & System Safety Research Group) Research Simulator Lab, in partnership with a private donor. The lab was opened in 2012 and plays an essential role in externally funded research and PhD research in the area of safety and risk management.

The TK Foundation currently supports programmes that enable disadvantaged youth to maximize their capabilities through pathways such as education, training and life skills with a view to becoming self-sufficient. The Foundation also promotes knowledge of the seas and oceans, and strengthens maritime safety and security for the betterment of individuals, communities and the environment.
