WMU Hosts BONUS BALTIMARI Workshop – From Research to Practice

On 18 December, the World Maritime University (WMU) hosted a BONUS BALTIMARI Workshop entitled “From Research to Practice”. The one-day research workshop focused on the assessment of research uptake and the possible pathways for its improvement. A document of best practices that would benefit, among others, policymakers and academia is one of the expected outcomes of the engagement.

Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of WMU, welcomed the participants, noting the important opportunity to collaborate and contribute towards better research uptake by industry and authorities, particularly policy makers. “Together, we can identify the best practices required and seek to enhance them and also identify how we can move forward and resolve policy issues or better implement them through the research that has been and is to be published,” she said.

BALTIMARI provides a critical review of the state-of-the-art risk management of maritime activities in the Baltic Sea. The scope is the available risk analysis methods to support decision making, and the available tools for preventing unwanted events and mitigating their consequences. WMU is a partner in the BONUS BALTIMARI team along with five other institutions in four countries - Aalto University and University of Helsinki (Finland), Hochschule Wismar (Germany), Gdynia Maritime University (Poland), and University of Tartu (Estonia).

BONUS BALTIMARI has received funding from BONUS (Art. 185), funded jointly by the EU and the Swedish Research Council Formas, the Polish National Centre for Research and Development, and the Estonian Research Council.
