WMU Participates at Posidonia 2014

Over the past 40 years, the bi-annual Posidonia exhibition has become a premiere shipping event. From 2-6 June, WMU participated in Posidonia in Athens, Greece and was represented by Acting President Neil Bellefontaine, Associate Professor Ilias Visvikis, Associate Professor Aykut Ölcer, and Dimitris Dalaklis who will join WMU as an Assistant Professor in July.

Over the five-day event, the WMU representatives had the opportunity to make invaluable contacts with individuals who visited the stand where WMU was co-exhibiting with IMO Publishing represented by Bianks Ochs-Fawzy, Sales and Marketing Officer, and  Sally McElhayer, Digital Titles Assistant for Sales and Marketing.

One of the highlights of WMU’s participation was the opportunity to connect with partners of WMU and members of the WMU community, including former IMO Secretary-General and WMU Chancellor Emeritus Efthimios E. Mitropoulos, WMU Governor HE Ana Irene Delgado, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and General Consul of the Republic of Panama to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Ambassador of the Republic of Panama to the Republic of Iceland, as well as several alumni.

During the event at a press conference on 3 June, WMU announced a partnership with the Maritime Academy of DNV GL, the world’s largest ship and offshore classification society, to offer an innovative new Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Executive Maritime Management.
