WMU Participates in International Forum on Seafarers’ Education, Training and Crewing

From 20-21 April, WMU participated in the International Forum on Seafarers’ Education, Training and Crewing that took place in Odessa, Ukraine. The annual forum brought together roughly 150 participants from 17 countries representing industry, academia and governmental agencies. The forum was hosted by the National University Odessa Maritime Academy, a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU).

WMU was represented at the forum by Associate Professor Michael Manuel, Head of Maritime Education and Training (MET), who made a presentation entitled Vocational and Academic MET: Trends, Opportunities and Challenges and Professor Takeshi Nakazawa, Executive Director of IAMU and part-time WMU faculty member, whose presentation was entitled IAMU Activities to Improve Quality of MET in Higher Education.

WMU’s participation in the forum aligns with key strategies in the IMO Secretary-General’s Study on the Financial Sustainability of WMU, specifically strategy 6 aimed at exploring new ways of collaboration with other universities, particularly those institutions affiliated with IAMU.
