WMU Delegation Presents at Swedish Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure

On 27 May, a delegation from the World Maritime University (WMU) visited the Swedish Ministry of Rural Affairs and Infrastructure. Mr. Johan Davidson, State Secretary to the Minister, welcomed Professor George Theocharidis, Professor Henning Jessen, and Professor Johan Hollander for the visit.

During the visit, Professor Theocharidis made a presentation examining whether so-called phantom ships are truly registered in phantom registries and whether enhanced due diligence in the ship registration process can address these persistent challenges. Professor Jessen successively presented about tracking and tracing shadow fleet tankers and lawfully qualifying their right to freedom of navigation.

Sweden has been the host country of WMU since the University was inaugurated in 1983, and WMU is the only United Nations institution that is headquartered in Sweden.
