Carla Escalante Fischer is currently working as Faculty Support Officer at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden. Carla’s areas of responsibility are coordinating WMU’s Research Portfolio and PhD Programme. Among several tasks, she keeps records of all WMU research projects and consultancies and is responsible for the recruitment and processing of PhD candidates, including handling of inquiries, maintaining databases, and scheduling progression seminars and oral examinations. Carla is also responsible for the logistical support to research meetings, workshops, courses, seminars and symposia.

Carla holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Blekinge Tekniska Högskola, Sweden and a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation from Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru. In 2013, she successfully completed a Project Management course delivered by Lund University, School of Economics and Management. Carla is fluent in oral and written Spanish, English and Portuguese and has fair knowledge of French and Swedish. She has participated in various courses and Congresses and was Proceedings Assistant at the English Teaching Training Seminar and Constitution of TESOL Chapter in Peru. She worked as a private translator for various translation offices in Lima and was named public translator by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before moving to Sweden, she served for several years as Public Affairs Assistant at the Canadian Embassy in Lima and Administrative Assistant for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Carla successfully organized numerous events, including conferences, education fairs, cinema festivals and other cultural and academic events in which there were participants ranging from 150 to 4 000 people. She received the Deputy Minister’s Award for locally engaged staff in recognition of her outstanding service and the Minister’s Citation for Foreign Policy Excellence, from the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs in 2001.
