After graduating and obtaining the Engineer’s degree in Navigation and Maritime Science (Nautical), I worked as a deck officer on LPG carriers. After moving ashore I worked as an independent marine and cargo surveyor mostly investigating insurance claims and conducting condition surveys of ships. 9 years ago I started as a surveyor in the Isle of Man Ship Registry where I conducted over 200 audits and inspections on cargo ships and super yachts. After being promoted to senior and then principal surveyor, my present role involves the management of risks and the implementation of policies and legislation for the entire fleet. My main areas of interest are the use of technology for reducing safety risks onboard the ships and making the maritime industry more open, diverse and inclusive. I worked on the development of the free-for-all crew wellbeing app – Crew Matters.
