A member of the prestigious Indian Administrative Service with over four decades of experience, Dr. Malini V Shankar is currently the Vice Chancellor of the Indian Maritime University. Her earlier assignments include Director General Shipping, Government of India on the rank and pay of Secretary to Government of India, and the Chairperson of the National Shipping Board.
Dr. Shankar has held key positions in the economic sectors in the State of Maharashtra. She has been nominated by the Government of India as a member on the Board of the Directors of companies (IL&FS, NHLML, 63 Moons).
Dr. Shankar obtained her doctoral degree in Institutional Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (India), Master’s Degree in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila (Philippines), and a Master’s Degree (by Research) in Chemistry from the USA.
Dr. Shankar was a member of the Government of India Task Force for Water Policy, and a member of Sub Task Force on Urban Water Management. She was invited by the Asian Development Bank, Manila, as a keynote speaker in the 2nd Asian Irrigation Forum. She was the Co-Chair of the Working Group on Operation at Sea of the CGPCS meeting held in Mauritius in 2017.
A recipient of prestigious international scholarships and academic awards, Dr. Shankar was one of the 7 global recipients of the AAA Award 2020 by the Asian Institute of Management, Manila, Philippines. She is the first Indian woman to receive the Award. She is the recipient of the Maritime SheEO Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 and the Samudramanthan Anna Malhotra Award 2023.
