Maria Pia Benosa is a Depositary and Legal Officer within the Legal Affairs Office of the International
Maritime Organization (IMO). Previously she was an Ocean Law and Policy researcher at the Centre
for International Law at the National University of Singapore, and a Legal Officer for the Institute for
Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea of the University of the Philippines. In the latter capacity, she
helped assist Philippine government agencies in various initiatives relating to ocean governance and
maritime dispute resolution.
Ms. Benosa obtained her LL.M. in National Security Law from Georgetown University in 2018 under a
Fulbright grant, following her completion of the Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Fellowship at the UN
Division for Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea. She also taught Public International Law and Local
Government Law courses at the University of the Philippines College of Law.
