Dr. Tiago Fonseca joined WMU as a Technical Officer for researching the implications of technological development on jobs and employment for maritime and transportation sectors.
As a researcher, Dr. Fonseca is particularly interested on how new technologies affect workers and firms. Prior to joining WMU, he worked on several research projects where he applied microeconomics methods to study the effects of new technologies on innovation strategies, productivity, jobs and skills. His research has been presented in the most important conferences on economics and management. Fonseca has also been teaching several courses in business economics and management, working enthusiastically to provide the best experience to the students, which has resulted in two IST Outstanding Teaching Awards.
Dr. Tiago Fonseca received his Ph.D. in Engineering and Management from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Portugal, with a thesis about the effects of new technologies on jobs, productivity and innovation strategies.
