Yitzak S. Karanja is currently an intern at the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute, supporting the team in his role as Project and Operations Support Intern. He began his internship on 15 June 2025 and is expected to serve a six-month term until 14th December 2025. Yitzak will provide support to the Programme and Operations Manager with relation to the assisting operations of the Institute’s Ocean Research programmes and projects, including support to project research and coordination, procurement, logistics, administration as well as event organisation efforts.

Yitzak is a student at the United States International University – Africa (USIU-A), pursuing a Bachelor's degree in International Relations. His academic background is anchored in a strong foundation from the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, where he completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme with concentrations in Chemistry, Global Politics, and Swahili.

Beyond the classroom, Yitzak has actively engaged in civic-oriented leadership roles and grassroots development initiatives. He has worked with local NGOs on marine and beach conservation, contributed to youth employment advocacy in Mombasa, and participated in international forums such as the IAME Hackathon and the East African Model United Nations. Professionally, he has completed internships at Diamond Trust Bank and ALA Capital, gaining hands-on experience in customer relations, legal documentation, and project logistics.

Fluent in English and Swahili, with working knowledge of programming languages and a measured history in financial trading, Yitzak brings to WMU-GOI a multidisciplinary skill set, a deep interest in global affairs and sustainability, and a long-term commitment to ocean governance and inclusive development.
