According to the decision of the General Assembly of the League of Arab States, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail took office as the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) on 25.10.2011. Throughout his career life, he has occupied several positions where he graduated with an honoured Bachelor degree of Electrical Engineering (Computer Department) from the Military Technical College (MTC) in 1978 then received a master's degree in 1982 from Cairo university starting his career as an assistant lecturer at the Computer Department of the Military Technical College (MTC) then he received the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1989 from George Washington University, USA and specialized in Computer Engineering starting his career in the Military Technical College (MTC) from 1989 till now as a member of the teaching staff at the Computer Department, where all the positions were held in the Military Technical College. In 1992, His job progression allowed him to be the Head of the Planning Educational Affairs department then the Head of the Advanced Technologies Group in 1997.

As in 2001, he was appointed to be the Head of the Planning department of Research Affairs then the Head of Chair of Electrical Engineering branch in 2003. In 2005, he became the Vice Dean for the Post Graduates & Research, then the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs in 2006 who is Responsible for MTC educational Plan. For his scientific and professional efficiency, In January 2007 he became MTC vice Dean for two years, then MTC Commandant, Dean in January 2009 until he was selected to be the president of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). During the previous positions, he has got many scientific experiences in the fields of computer networks, secure computer systems, algorithms, computers and structural systems of computers, in addition to:

  • Teaching materials for undergraduate and graduate studies.
  • Supervising Master and PhD students in MTC, Ain Shams University, Cairo University, as well as judging thesis in such institutes and foreign Canadian universities in Engineering and American University in Cairo, and Arab Academy for Science and Technology.
  • Publishing papers in local and International conferences as journals in areas of Computer Science and Computer Engineering.
  • Other External activities

It is notable to say that during the International Conferences that held annually at the MTC - Cairo – Egypt, he took the responsibility of being a member, Head of, organizing and scientific committees.
