World Maritime University - This proceeding is the output of the WMU Maritime Week 2024 Conference, which was held from August 27 to 30, 2024, at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden.
Associate Professor, Maritime Labour Law & Policy (ITF Seafarers' Trust) (France/Morocco) Dr. Khanssa Lagdami is an Associate Professor of Maritime Labour Law and Policy (ITF Seafarers' Trust) at the World Maritime University, where she has served since 2015. Her work focuses on maritime labour law, human rights at sea, maritime security, and the impact of new technologies on seafarers, and she is a committed advocate for seafarers' rights, notably through her lectures on the MLC, 2006 and its amendments. She has led major international research projects including WeCAPS (port security in West and Central Africa) and the WMU/ITF Transport 2040 Future of Work programme, and currently serves as Principal Investigator on Food4Seafarers, the Abandonment of Seafarers governance and reform project, and a project on corruption challenges in port and ship inspections. Her publication record includes peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and institutional reports on maritime labour and technology, and she is co-editor, with Professor James Kraska, of Marine Technology, Ocean Development and the Law of the Sea (Cambridge University Press). She serves as a reviewer for several journals, including Marine Policy. She has worked extensively with maritime and port authorities across Africa, holds executive education credentials from Harvard's Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning and the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School, was selected in 2012 for a highly competitive research fellowship at the Hague Academy of International Law, currently serves as Vice Chair of WMU's Staff Association Committee, and regularly consults for the IMO and the European Commission. She holds a Ph.D. in Maritime Law from the University of Nantes, France.
